1. What was the overall purpose of the speech. Try to restate or summarize the main point. How well was it addressed? She wanted to introduce Amsterdam. She told us how she got to know the city, and what’s famous there. It was addressed quite well. Now I can name three interesting things about Amsterdam.
2. Was there a hook? Was it effective? How could it have been improved? She started her speech by asking if the audience have heard of ‘Venice of the North,’ a nickname of Amsterdam. It got me interested in her speech, but it could have been better is she told us the relation between Venice and Amsterdam. What’s the thing in common that it’s called that way?
3. Was the structure logical? Point supported by evidence or examples? Good transitions between ideas? Yes. With several points about introducing the city Amsterdam, her speech was highly informative. She made effective use of transitional phrases.
4. Was the conclusion concise? Were main points restated or summarized? Was the closing memorable? I don’t remember if it was required to do so then, because this video is one of the early ones filmed during the first weeks of the semester… but the main points weren’t restated. Her closing was memorable though. She urged the audience to visit Amsterdam as their next vacation site.
5. Did the speaker use enthusiasm, pauses, humor, visual aids, She was very enthusiastic talking about how she got to know the city, and at the end, she introduced an interesting thing that only Hollanders can do in Amsterdam… (Which is illegal in Korea. In case police officers see this… I’m not interested in that stuff… haha…) Pauses in between were OK (it was there when it was needed), and she also didn’t forget to use transitional phrases to make her speech sound natural. The use of powerpoint was also great. The photos in her slide really helped in getting to know the city.
6. What did you notice about the speaker’s body language? Posture, eye contact, gestures. The audience was hiding her body, so I couldn’t clearly see what body language she was doing, but her posture was natural, and she maintained good eye contact with the audience during the whole speech.
7. Was the volume good? Did the speaker enunciate and pronounce clearly? Could everything be understood? The volume was OK, and her pronunciation was super good. I could understand her every sentence.
