CATEGORY RATING COMMENTS/SUGGESTIONS Evaluator: Hyowon Yun Speech Value - 3 Your speech was interesting and was attention-gathering in some ways, but I felt like your speech was mainly focused on your own experiencest rather than focused on the audience's interests. In my opinion it would have been better if you had chosen a topic that is more listener-centered and public. I think you could have connected the meaning of your topic more with the audience than with yourself. Other than this point, your speech's direction was clear and fresh! Preparation - 5 I felt like your speech was organized and nicely prepared. You didn't hold any cue cards or script so i could see that you've practiced hard before the actual speech. You didn't murmur or repeated sentences, so there was no problem listening and understanding the overall context of your speech. Organization - 4 You have organized your speech in an interesting way but I felt like as your speech proceeded to the end, it sounded as if your speech kind of went-off topic a little bit. You've talked about pronouncing the name of the Italian restaurant in Italian, and this part was interesting, but I felt like this example is not really significant enough to be used in your speech. I think it would have been better if you had used an example that really had a meaning to you or might have a meaning to the audience. Opening - 5 Your opening was fun and audience-attracting. I would suggest you use various types of opening everytime you give a speech. Body - 4 I liked how you've given examples on each body of your speech. They have supported the topic sentences of each body parts and prevented the audience from getting bored. Conclusion - 4 Your conclusion was impressive and I like how you've successfully summarized the points that you've mentioned in one to three sentences. Transitions - 5 I liked how you've naturally moved on to next points in your body paragraphs. You didn't make any big mistakes when telling your sentences and the flow was natural and clear. Making good transitions would have been very hard this time, because the speech is over 5 minutes, but I think you did a great job on this! well done :) What could the speaker have done differently to make the speech more effective? It is not a must, but I think since your presentation is mainly on cultures and languages learning, you could have delivered your points more precisely and effectively if you had used the pictures in your presentation to support your speech. And next time, try using some more active body movements or hand jestures or facial expressions to add animation to your speech! What did you like about the presentation? I always like how you are telling the audience your most sincere ideas and stories. They are heart-moving and works very powerfully to the audience. For this major assignment, I like your idea on appreciating different languages and knowing the difference between them and use them in a proper way in everyday life. Nice job!! :)
