    Assignment/Title : Christina Woo/Second Major Assignment/Thur 1-2
Speech Value: 5. Her topic was definitely a topic that the audience could all relate to. (The audience being Korean.) And it wasn’t a topic that was too hard or ostentatious to scare us away. There was also a lot to learn from her speech, so I give her a 5 on speech value.
Preparation: 5. I could see her hard work on preparation. She had notes in her hand, but barely referred to it, seemingly having memorized all her points. Also, she gave adequate visuals to back up her speech. (Like the statistics on the number of foreign tourists to Korea.)
Organization: 5. She had a strong opening, logical support material backing up her body, and a great closer.
Opening: 5. Her giving a ‘pop quiz’ was a great opening, luring the audience’s attention.
Body: 5. As written above, all of her points were well backed up.
Conclusion: 5. She used the quote “Let’s all keep in mind that it is always tougher to defend a title than to win it.” to back up her opinion about her topic.
Transitions: 5. She used transitional phrases like “And now let’s move on to…” to make transitions from point to point very natural.
What could the speaker have done differently to make the speech more effective?
-The speaker was great! So, I would like to make a suggestion to the camera man. It would have been a bit better if I could see the audience’s reactions to her questions.
What did you like about the presentation?
-In her speech she told the audience about her experiences as a child in the 90s in Hong Kong. Everyone asked her if she was Chinese or Japanese and no one had a clue where Korea was. Living in the US in the mid-2000s, I have experienced the same thing. So I also know how sad it was as a child, having to explain the geographical location of Korea, every time when asked if I’m Chinese. Her experience, perfectly matching mine, immersed me in her speech so deeply; I didn’t know her speech was over until the next video started playing. (Just exaggerating… She gave the audience clues her speech was coming to an end and had a wonderful closer.)

    1. Hi. I'm Jeonghaeng, who wrote this feedback.

Sorry Christina... The evaluation form from toastmasters says to give you a score on a scale of 1 to 5. I was so used to the system of 5 being the highest score and 1 being the lowest, I made a mistake of giving you a 5 for what you deserve a 1(for toastmasters, 1 is the highest score!) on. All of the 5s I gave you on the comment above are 1s. My bad..

    1. Speech Value 1: The topic was very interesting, as Hallyu was one of the main reason why I decided to come to Korea as an exchange student.
    2. Preparation 1: She had clearly prepared for the speech, well memorized and ppt as a supporting material.
    3. Organization 1: She had clearly organized her speech to opening, body and conclusion.
    4. Opening 1: Her idea of the "pop quiz" was interesting.
    5. Body 1: Well-organized, as she talked about Hallyu both in a personal as well as in society.
    6. Conclusion 1: Great conclusion with couple questions for the audience to think about. She was also very clear when she was finishing the speech.
    7. Transition 1: She was very clear when moved to another subtopic, which made it easy to follow.

What could the speaker have done differently to make the speech more effective?
Very good speech! Hard to think about anything that could be improved.
What did you like about the presentation?
I really liked the speech! The stories about her childhood in Hong Kong were very interesting. Great voice and pace, very easy to follow. Great job!
