  1. Title: The Importance of Listening to Other People
    Evaluator: Minyong Han
    Speaker: Seungchae Na
    Date: 30th May

    1. Speech Value (Interesting, meaningful to audience): 1. I agree with him in that taking advice is very important.

    2. Preparation (Research, rehearsal): 2. It looked like he put a lot of time into this speech, because he didn't use any help with this speech the whole time. But, he didn't seem to rehearse much, seeing that he stuttered a lot.

    3. Organization (Logical, clear): 2. He made sure what the topic was and he did a good job on organization. But, I think he would have done it better with more explaining on taking advice.

    4. Opening (Attention-getting, led into topic): 1. It's was enough to catch the audience's attention with a question about movies. It made me wonder what he was going to talk about taking advice with movies.

    5. Body (Flowed smoothly, appropriate support material): 1. He used a lot of materials to back up his claim, so the body was good.

    6. Conclusion (Effective): 1. His conclusion was effective.

    7. Transitions (appropriate, helpful): 2. I'm not sure if there were enough transitions.

    * What could the speaker have done differently to make the speech more effective?
It was clear that he prepared a lot for this speech, but I think he could have used some help with his speech. He didn't look so sure about what he was talking about. He could benefit from help with his stuttering.
    * What did you like about the presentation?
I liked his topic, because I also think taking advice is important. He provided enough examples. I liked his presentation on the whole.

  2. Title: 2nd Major Assignment
    Evaluator: Hayoung Lee
    Presenter: Seungchae Na
    Date: 2017/ 05/31

 Speech Value (Interesting, meaningful to audience) 1
The speech was interesting in that it had various examples to support his main idea – listening to advice from others is important and is actually good for us. The message was meaningful.

     Preparation (Research, rehearsal) 1
He sounded like he memorized his entire script perfectly. Wow. Great preparation work done!

     Organization (Logical, clear) 2
Opening, body and conclusion were well organized if seen separately, but transition between each parts was rather lacking.

     Opening (Attention-getting, led into topic) 2
I think the speaker could have come up with a more intriguing opener than a ‘Today I’m going to talk about…”. More ‘interesting’ please!

 Body (Flowed smoothly, appropriate support material) 2
The speaker talked about the most memorable scene from his favorite Harry Potter series. The story well supported his main idea – the importance of listening to others. However, after the story the speaker said ‘we should sometimes listen to others’. ‘Sometimes’ is not a strong word. A stronger phrase would have worked better. The example of a soccer player was also effective as a supporting detail.

     Conclusion (Effective) 2
Again, he finished his speech with a ‘sometimes’. It did not quite match with his opening, because he said ‘the importance of listening to others' advice’ at the beginning. To me, ‘sometimes’ suggested that listening to advice from others was not that important.

     Transitions (appropriate, helpful) 2
He could have included a sentence or two to connect the Harry Potter story and ‘making mistakes’ part. The following transition was nice in between listening to others and the advantage of listening to others.

 What could the speaker have done differently to make the speech more effective?
The speaker could have relaxed a little bit because he is so still throughout his speech. More body movements could have made his speech more effective. Addition to that, he could have slowed down a little bit because it was hard for me to follow the story from Harry Potter series. (I had to rewind several times.) For the audience who is not familiar with the movie, he could have paced down a bit.

 What did you like about the presentation?
I liked how he supported his idea with various types of supporting details. One from his favorite movie and the other from a soccer player well supported his speech. His preparation was perfect. No notecards? I mean that’s a big wow. I hope to see more of this great speech in the next semester. Great job, Seungchae! Thanks for sharing an inspiring story with us!
