    1. What was the overall purpose of the speech. Try to restate or summarize the main point. How well was it addressed?
The overall purpose of her speech is to introduce her opinion—which is yes—about euthanasia. Her main points were: people should have control over their lives, and people shouldn’t suffer from illnesses.

    2. Was there a hook? Was it effective? How could it have been improved?
There wasn’t a ‘hook’ like asking a question to the audience, or reversing a statement. However, she used the way of giving the audience the definition of the word which she was going to talk about. It was greatly effective. For a topic like this, it was a nice intro.

    3. Was the structure logical? Point supported by evidence or examples? Good transitions between ideas?
Yes, highly logical. She started her speech by giving the definition of euthanasia, and showed two supporting reasons (main points). She had many examples prepared, like how people are traveling to places where euthanasia is legal. She also made great transitions, just like a flowing river.

    4. Was the conclusion concise? Were main points restated or summarized? Was the closing memorable?
She ended her speech by summarizing her speech and emphasizing her opinion again, which was definitely memorable. After watching her speech, I can now say to people why I’m for euthanasia, giving them tons of reasons and examples.

    5. Did the speaker use enthusiasm, pauses, humor, visual aids,
She was enthusiastic, and made great use of pauses. But because her topic was a serious one, she couldn’t use humor. Visual aids weren’t used, but because she elaborated well, I had no problem in understanding her points.

    6. What did you notice about the speaker’s body language? Posture, eye contact, gestures.
She didn’t use body languages ‘enthusiastically’, because of her topic. But overall posture and eye contact were great. Like a professional.

    7. Was the volume good? Did the speaker enunciate and pronounce clearly? Could everything be understood?
Her speech was highly comprehensible. Volume, pronunciation, and everything was just so good. Thanks for your wonderful speech, Juyeon.

Assignment Title: A Great Vacation Idea

    1. What was the overall purpose of the speech? Try to restate or summarize the main point. How well was it addressed?
The speaker recommends her audience to visit Madagascar for the upcoming summer vacation. Her supporting details were great.

    2. Was there a hook? Was it effective? How could it have been improved?
Yes, there was a hook. Mentioning how much people are in want of great vacations, she gave a suggestion for the next vacation spot. Her hook was effective in that she built up an idea that the audience really needs a great vacation idea. Then, she gave Madagascar as the next travel destination. It could have been improved if she had given a slight pause between ‘If you are feeling the same way?’ and ‘If you are’. Maybe a second of two for the audience to think about it? : )

    3. Was the structure logical? Point supported by evidence or examples? Good transitions between ideas?
The structure was logical. Transitions were smooth and nice between ideas. Her points were supported by various descriptions. She talked about unique flora and fauna when discussing the national parks. She gave an example of how to enjoy the tropical beach. She also mentioned the travel is costly from Korea because travellers must transfer as there is no direct flight to Madagascar from Korea.

    4. Was the conclusion concise? Were main points restated or summarized? Was the closing memorable?
Her conclusion was concise and was effective. Her main points were not quite summarized but her conclusion was still strong and persuasive to the audience. The closing was memorable.

    5. Did the speaker use enthusiasm, pauses, humor, visual aids?
She was enthusiastic. She did not use any visuals, but I think it could have been better if she gave some images of Madagascar. Vivid images of National Parks and tropical beaches might have helped in describing Madagascar.

    6. What did you notice about the speaker’s body language? Posture, eye contact, gestures.
The speaker’s body language was effective but I noticed that she was rather staying still when discussing her main points. Maybe a little bit more of gestures will be effective. Her eye contact was great.

    7. Was the volume good? Did the speaker enunciate and pronounce clearly? Could everything be understood?
Her volume was good and her pronunciation was clear. I could not understand some parts, but it is my personal thing – British accent is a bit tough for me to understand. Though not perfectly comprehensible for ME (it would be just for me, I suppose!), I really loved her accent. British accents, so fancy.

Thank you for sharing your speech with us, Juyeon! : )
